OUTREACH SPOTLIGHT

American Public Square enables civility to EMERGE at 2022 TEDxKC

August 2022

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks videos and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection.

The APS team participated in the 2022 TEDxKC event to engage community members in a dialogue about what civility means to them and what they can personally do to increase civility in their community.

COMMUNITY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT

The Kansas City Media Collective

The KC Media Collective (KCMC) is a group of nonprofit and community-centered partners collaborating to make local news easily available, its coverage equitable and its operations sustainable.

The KC Media Collective is committed to efforts that emphasize mutual understanding and empathy within communities, working toward a day when people have access to trusted news, and communities benefit through greater civic engagement. Breaking systemic barriers to news access, including poverty, language barriers, disabilities and educational inequity, KCMC seeks to unlock the potential of communities.

The KC Media Collective initiative was made possible with support from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.

In 2022, KCMC’s first full year of partnership, the collective partnered to bring two dynamic programs to the community, complemented by coordinated journalistic coverage that ensured the community had increased access to learn about and engage in these topics.

In September, the members also came together with Raytown’s Crane Brewing Company to announce the limited release of “Brewshound” a new hazy pale ale benefiting The Kansas City Media Collective.
